Series 44 Records of United Women's Convention 1979

The 1979 United Women's Convention was the first of the United Women's Conventions to be avowedly feminist in orientation, and was the subject of considerable debate among women's organisations, the media, and the general public.

The Convention was organised by a committee of Waikato women, and was held at the University of Waikato at Easter 1979. The material in this series came from various members of the organising committee, including Marilyn Waring, MP, and Jane Ritchie.

As well as organisational files and correspondence, the series contains minutes of the organising committee, news clippings, questionnaires to participants, critical analysis of the Convention by committee members and in returned questionnaires and correspondence, the banner and gavel used at the Convention, and some of the photographs and posters displayed at the Convention.
