Footage of the University of Waikato's first Graduation Ceremony held at Founders Theatre on Thursday, 2 March 1967. This reel was found in the archives and was included in a project in 2023 to digitise historical media held by the Library | Te Iho o Te Manawataki.
The Chancellor Dr. Denis Rogers opened the ceremony. The Minister of Education of the time, Hon. A. E. Kinsella addressed the assembly and Dr. Denis Rogers conferred an Honorary Doctorate to Sir Bernard Fergusson.
After Sir Bernard Fergusson spoke, the Vice-Chancellor Dr. Llewellyn and the Chancellor presented 19 graduates with their Degree of Bachelor of Arts. Photographs can be viewed in our campus photo collection.
