With mock fanfare, the Diary of a Diplomat elevates banal routines into supposed high drama, while a deliberately dull “Truth Is Stranger Than Fiction” column records the empty proceedings of the Committee on Exotic Studies - where absent members still managed to unanimously approve proposals.
