Most books are held in the main collection of Mātangireia on Level 4. There is a small collection of Mātangireia Outsize and Map Outsize Books shelved in the Journals section on Level 3. A temperature controlled Rare Books Room on Level 1 contains all books published up to 1900, second copies of books published 1901-1945, handprinted or handmade New Zealand poetry and some valuable or rare books are available on request.
