Donn Ratana was commissioned by the University to create this work for a very practical reason. To the side of the piece is a flowing waterway, water is pumped from the pond back to the top of the cascading waterfall. It is within the sculpture that the pump is housed, protecting it from the weather and removing it visually from the serene setting. Ironically, the piece references the reality of the original, natural setting of the area, vaguely mirrored by the manufactured court as we see it today.
